STONINGTON — “Island Prom,” a short documentary film on Deer Isle-Stonington’s unique junior prom, will be shown in two special, celebratory screenings Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 7 and 8 p.m.

“Island Prom,” by Deer Isle-Stonington High School students Leti Douglass and Galen Koch and produced by Opera House Arts’ Imagination Project Public Digital Media Studio, was recently awarded the Grand Prize in the Maine Teen Film and Video Festival.

“Island Prom” was selected the Grand Prize winner out of 33 entries in the Senior Division of the Maine Student Film and Video Festival, and was honored in an awards ceremony and screening last month in Waterville in conjunction with the prestigious Maine International Film Festival.

The judges “were impressed with the filmmakers ability to capture their subjects at ease; their honesty of presentation; and the sheer joy of the whole event.”

The one-night-only screenings of “Island Prom” will include Talk Backs with Douglass and Koch after each showing, and a reception for the student filmmakers after the 8 p.m. show.

All tickets for this special film celebration are $5 at the door the night of the show. Reservations will not be accepted. For more information, please call the Opera House at 367-2788 or go to www.operahousearts.org.
