Over the next eleven months I will be planning my wedding and keeping an online blog to track the days leading up to August 2, 2008.

            My fiancée, Colin, and I met around sixth grade and were friends up through high school. We ended up going to our senior prom together in 2004 and started dating afterwards. Currently we are seniors at the University of Southern Maine, where I study Sociology and Business and Colin studies Political Science and International Relations. This spring Colin and I spent five months in Ireland and during our semester abroad started to discuss marriage. When we got home Colin went to his grandmother and was able to get his great-grandmothers engagement ring. On June 10th Colin proposed and the planning began.

            All summer we were looking at locations around Ellsworth and tried to find the perfect spot to hold the ceremony and reception. After weeks of looking we decided to hold the celebrations at my parent’s home in Ellsworth. A wedding at home will allow us to follow our own rules and make this day everything we (mostly I) want. The house has a barn with a huge upstairs and an open basement that opens up to the back yard. We will be having the ceremony in the yard and reception in the open basement.

            At this moment I have my colors picked out (pink, black and white), the wedding party chosen and details such as food, dessert, and music being worked out. My mother has been constantly landscaping, shopping for odds and ends and cleaning out the barn (where cocktail hour and dancing will be).  My current projects include sending out the Save-The-Dates and trying to make sure Colin and I are on the same page regarding our wants.

            I am planning to continue writing updates on the planning and adventure that I have embarked on.  Over the months I will give details on all the decisions one has to make when planning such a large event. With the help of Colin and my parents I hope this wedding will be the one I always dreamed of.
