Can't Be Running in Quebec Print E-mail

Well maybe you can.  But this weekend’s motorcycle tour precluded any running.  1,125 miles on my motorcycle over the past weekend up in the Gaspe made running impossible.

But that’s ok.

Time is the greatest enemy of a good solid training program.  Work-a-day folks like me can only run in the wee hours of the morning.  And sometimes, you just can’t roll out of bed to put in 15 miles before breakfast.

A look at my training in the past shows good periods of serious awake time at 4am.  But right now, it is a struggle.  It has something to do with the stress of work just now.  It comes and goes.  Unfortunately it’s here.

That is why this weekend’s MDI marathon will be a ‘jog’ with some friends.  A rather long jog but in company with folks I don’t get to see everyday, it should be very enjoyable.  I’ve run a few marathons with these guys.  This will be the first one where we all plan on running together.

With 8 marathons completed, the distance isn’t a factor anymore.  And experience warns against any foolish thinking that I can still ‘race’ it.  It is time to plan for a Spring marathon.  Which one is up in the air.  I think it will depend on when my training peaks.

Last winter, I peaked early and ended up missing the Spring marathon.  I intend on not letting that happen again.  Well, here’s to a new beginning.  Start the new training cycle off with a race – why not?

Back to Quebec – why do I love that place?  I guess I like to practice my Francaise on the unsuspecting public.  I can’t wait to get back there…
