GOULDSBORO — While debate continues over what’s to become of the 40-acre site in Corea that once housed a U.S. Navy communications center, Rick Henion has his own whimsical vision for the property.

A Maine Forest Service ranger by day, Henion is a talented artist who some years ago penned his own tongue-in-cheek site development plan for the property.

“I had attended a public meeting that the town held, where different uses of the property were discussed,” said Henion, who lives in Gouldsboro. “I went home and drew this.”

Henion’s concept includes the Gouldsboro International Airport, a Six Flags over Corea amusement park, an outlet mall, a self-contained nuclear power and waste treatment plant and the world’s tallest lighthouse. There’s also a marina, a port for cruise ships, a terminal for direct Boston-to-Corea rail service and, of course, a McDonald’s restaurant.

The poster-size artwork has been turning heads in the Gouldsboro town office since 2002, when Henion made a gift of it to the Gouldsboro Board of Selectmen.
