Grand Jury Indicts 4 on Sex Offenses Print E-mail

ELLSWORTH — A Hancock County grand jury indicted 21 people Tuesday. Four of the indictments were in connection with alleged sex offenses, including that of a Hancock man who police allege raped a friend on Jan. 1.

Scott I. Oakes II, 28, was indicted on charges of gross sexual assault, assault and furnishing liquor to a minor.

Justice Kevin M. Cuddy ruled last month that Oakes should be held without bail pending a probation revocation hearing. Oakes is on probation for an assault conviction.

The following others were indicted:

Joshua C. Beal, 23, of Deblois indicted on a charge of gross sexual assault Feb. 23, 2007, in Gouldsboro.

George A. Gray, 41, of Surry on two counts of unlawful sexual contact Dec. 1, 2007, in Surry.

Robbie W. Greenlaw, 24, of Franklin on charges of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact April 10, 2005, in Franklin.

Elwood K. Carter, 43, of Ellsworth on charges of assault and violating conditions of his release Aug. 11, 2007, in Surry.

Michael David, 46, of Ellsworth on charges of unlawful trafficking, unlawful furnishing and criminal forfeiture on Jan. 17 in Ellsworth.

Adam N. Davis, 18, of Orland on charges of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer Nov. 1, 2007, in Orland.

Joshua S. Gray, 23, of Ellsworth on charges of aggravated assault, assault on an officer and reckless conduct Jan. 29 in Blue Hill. Indicted on two counts of theft Sept. 15, 2007, in Trenton.

Rob B. Gray, 35, of Bucksport on charges of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer Jan. 7, 2004, in Brooksville.

Stephen L. Gray, 23, of Penobscot on charges of burglary, violating conditions of his release, stealing drugs and theft Jan. 13 in Penobscot.

Jeremy Greenleaf, 28, of Bar Harbor on charges of aggravated operating after habitual offender revocation, operating after revocation, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and unauthorized use Aug. 20 in Bar Harbor.

Joseph L. Hills, 40, of Bucksport on charges of driving to endanger, reckless conduct, aggravated assault, operating after suspension and driving to endanger June 22, 2007, in Trenton.

Cynthia Johnson, 55, of Hancock on a charge of negotiating a worthless instrument May 17, 2006, in Winter Harbor.

Jayson A. LaPoint, 25, of Bucksport on charges of aggravated assault and assault Aug. 26, 2005, in Bucksport.

Jeffrey L. Layne, 34, Surry on a charge of violation of sex offender registration Nov. 28, 2007, in Surry.

Richard A. Lyon, 46, Franklin on charges of operating after revocation and OUI July 29, 2007, in Ellsworth.

Dustin R. Merry, 27, of Bucksport on charges of OUI, carrying a concealed weapon and criminal speed Oct. 6, 2007, in Bucksport.

Gilbert I. Ogden, 46, of Bucksport on charges of burglary and attempted theft Oct. 24, 2007, in Orland.

Richard Puckett, 50, of Warren on charges of harassment, stalking and two counts of violating a protection order Sept. 13 through Dec. 26, 2007, in Amherst.

Jason T. Robbins, 31, of Steuben on charges of acquiring drugs by deception and forgery July 26, 2007, in Bar Harbor.

Chad L. Wascholl, 18, of Bucksport on charges of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer Nov. 1, 2007, in Orland.
