McAndrews on Board: Golf Croquet Happening Big Time at Woodlawn Mr. Randall Mc Andrews, formerly of the Muppets, is now in residence for the season and will be guiding the golf croquet program. Gollf Croquet is the fastest growing form of crouet i around the world today. It is played on a flat lawn mowed very short, with 6 narrow hoops, the exact configuration set up at Woodlawn. The game is always between two sides: blue and black versus red and yellow. The sides contest each wicket in turn, and each side simply gets one shot per turn, regardlless of whether they hti another ball or not. Whicheveve side makes wicket one first with either one of their balls gets tthe point for that wicket, then both sides shoot from wherever they are and contest th the second wicket and so on. This is a fast paced game that can be played by newcomers but that requires great skill and teamwork to exccel in. in five minues you will be playing 6 wicket croquet with top of lthe line equipment on the fiinest court in Maine!!!~!! ! Come on out Fridays 3-5 PM and see what the Woodlawn croquet happening is all about! There wil be golf croquet legues forming later in the summer, and infrormation about how to sign up for other aspects of the Woodlawn croquet program wiill be aviailable. There is a $5,00 charge for members of the public. Woodlawn museum members play for f ree. This is a game for all ages, 8-80 and beyond. The next session is this very coming Friday, July 11, 2008, 3-5 PM at the Woodlawn museum. Call Perry Mattson 676-9235 for further inforamtion. Tips for begiinners: Play lots of golf crouqet. It helps you groove your swing and increaes yur accuracy on roquets and wicket shots, it familiarizies you with the order of wickets and it teaches the importance of team play and helping partner ball out. Tips for Advanced Players: Play lots of golf croquet. You will get to take long wicket shots that you could not afford to take in the American Rules game, you will learn to make long roquets with accuracy which will termendously improve you ability to rush balls at a distance, and you will have lots of fun!
