ELLSWORTH — The regular meeting of the Ellsworth Chess Club took place on Sept. 4 at Frankie’s Cafe in Mr. Paperback.
The format was free-play with the members deciding who to challenge and the time frame to be used in the game. Joel Knight of Belfast bested Dick Powell of Ellsworth in the night’s longest match — 90 minutes. In other games of note, club champion Paul Wlodkowski won all the matches he participated in except one. He was upset by Matt Hall, the previous week’s “B” Tournament winner. Also having positive evenings were Mark Woida, Andy Bryan and Jeremy Mason of Mount Desert Island. On Wednesday, Sept. 17, the club will support the weekly “Game Night” at the Maine Grind. Although other games besides chess will be available, chess will now be available a second day of the week in Ellsworth The new Maine Grind evening will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. For more information on either evening, contact Dick Powell at 667-3507 or ask at the Maine Grind. Thursday evening chess will continue at Frankie’s at the regular time, 6:30 to 9 p.m. |
