A rare brass telescope, once used by the U.S. Life Saving Services to watch for shipwrecks off Maine's coast will soon be exhibited at Cutler's Little River Lighthouse.  This, according a story in the Bangor News (http://www.bangornews.com/detail/96537.html)

The rare brass telescope, presented to Tim Harrison, co-chairman of the Friends of Little River Lighthouse, has been in the possession of George Morrison of Oak Bay, New Brunswick, for several years. He inherited it from his father. When presenting the telescope to Harrison, Morrison said in a prepared release, “I now know that the telescope will have a good home and I entrust it to Harrison’s care for future generations.”

Friends of the Little River Lighthouse  is a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation (ALF), whose mission statement is to "save and preserve our nation's historic light stations and their rich heritage."

In addition to work done in Cutler to restore the Little River Lighthouse, the ALF is working to preserve a number of lighthouses across the country.  Included in these are Rockland's Breakwater Light, Whaleback Lighthouse (a recent addition), Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Owl's Head Lighthouse and many more.
