I was recently introduced to Dr. John Herzog from Falmouth, Maine. Doctor Herzog explained to me that he became interested in plant-based diets after finding out that his cholesterol was high. He explained that he went on medication, but just didn't feel well on it. After finding the book, The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D. and his son, Thomas M. Campbell II, Dr. Herzog decided to adopt this way of eating. He was pleasantly surprised with the results. His cholesterol dropped to well below normal. These results this inspired him to do his own study on plant-based diets for health.

The Portland study will go April 13-May 7. Participants will be eating prepared plant based meals that will be provided by Little Lad's Bakery of Portland, Maine. Meals will be picked up 2x weekly by participants at either Little Lad's Bakery (in Portland) or Blue Elephant (in Saco). Pre and post labs will be drawn for Lipid Profile, CRP, and Fasting Glucose. Dr. Herzog has made arrangements with Nordex Labs and have all the requisitions at his office. His contact information for any interested participants from the public is his office 207-781-9077 or his email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . He needs to have all committed participants by April 6 to ensure that labs (blood work) is done in time, and food is ordered. The cost of two tasty meals is a bargain at $12. a day.

Hopefull this study will inspire more eating for better health!
